At Team Raposa, every child is known by name. Our instructors, parents, and students form a tight-knit community where your family belongs from day one. For families building a new life in the Ironbound, we are more than a school — we are family.
The values you teach at home — respect for elders, discipline, hard work — are the same values we reinforce on the mat. The belt system, the bowing, the yes sir/yes ma'am culture continues what you already model for your children.
Our students do not just train — they compete and win. From state championships to national tournaments, Ironbound kids represent Newark on the biggest stages. Your child can be the next champion from our community.

Call for DetailsLocated at 269 Oliver Street in Newark's vibrant Ironbound neighborhood, Team Raposa Newark serves the Portuguese, Brazilian, and diverse communities of Newark and surrounding areas. Our Newark location is the birthplace of Team Raposa, founded by Master Vinicius Raposa to bring world-class martial arts training to the Ironbound community. Today, we train over 500 students at our Newark facility, from Little Tigers (ages 3-6) through adult competitors.
The Ironbound is known for its strong family values, cultural pride, and commitment to youth development. Team Raposa Newark reflects these values by offering affordable family programs, bilingual instruction (English, Portuguese, Spanish), and a welcoming environment where every student feels like part of the Team Raposa family. We're not just a martial arts school — we're a community institution that has helped hundreds of Ironbound families build confidence, discipline, and champions.
Our flagship program, Olympic Taekwondo at Newark is Kukkiwon-certified and follows international standards. Students progress through belt ranks from white to black belt, learning discipline, technique, and mental resilience. Classes are structured by age and skill level: Little Tigers (4-6), Kids (7-12), Teens (13-17), and Adults (18+). Each program emphasizes character development alongside physical training, with a clear pathway for students who want to compete at the state, regional, and national level.
Taekwondo builds more than kicks and punches — it builds confidence, respect for authority, and the mental toughness to overcome challenges. Many of our Newark students have gone on to compete in state championships and national tournaments, representing the Ironbound with pride.
Our Boxing program at Newark is led by Master Nyreek "Showtime" and Master Nyreek Jr., both accomplished boxers with years of competitive experience. Boxing classes focus on footwork, hand speed, power generation, and ring strategy. Students learn proper stance, combinations, and defensive techniques in a supportive, non-intimidating environment. Boxing is excellent for building cardiovascular fitness, hand-eye coordination, and mental toughness. Classes are available for beginners through advanced competitors.
Kickboxing combines boxing hand techniques with powerful kicks, creating a high-energy striking sport. Our Kickboxing program at Newark is perfect for teens and adults looking for an intense, full-body workout. Instruction is provided by Master Elias Neto, a Brazil Muay Thai Champion with extensive striking experience. Kickboxing classes build explosive power, cardiovascular endurance, and practical striking skills.
Kombato is Master Vinicius Raposa's proprietary self-defense system, designed for real-world protection. Unlike sport martial arts, Kombato teaches practical techniques for escaping dangerous situations, de-escalation, and situational awareness. Classes are available for kids, teens, and adults, making self-defense accessible to the whole family. Kombato is especially popular with parents who want their children to develop confidence and awareness in an increasingly complex world.
